Personal branding photography on film: Portland fast food diner edition

When Carrie pitched me the idea of a personal branding photoshoot with a diner vibe for her hair styling business, I was immediately down. She wanted something completely out of the norm for the hair styling industry - no posing with scissors or working with clients. Instead, she wanted a retro diner shoot mixed with lifestyle portraits in her home.

The results are insane if I do say so myself.

Portland personal branding photography for artists and creatives

We shot a mix of film and digital (the photos in this blog are all 35mm film - good ol' Cinestill 400) shot on my trusty Pentax K1000. Recently I've been loving shooting film even more than digital. The intentional nature of film portraits makes the entire process more satisfying - from the shooting itself to reviewing the scans and making edits.

I've shot a few personal branding sessions on Cinestill 400 (I'm usually a Kodak Portra 400 girly) and I'm loving the results.

As a lifestyle photographer with a background in photojournalism, I love connecting with brands and artists to bring your personal brand to life through bold photography. I've worked with hair stylists, painters, glass artists, personal trainers, and business owners of all kinds. What are Personal Brand Attributes?

Personal brand attributes are the unique qualities and characteristics that define an individual or brand. These attributes encompass everything from personality traits and values to aesthetic preferences and professional expertise. In Portland, where creativity and authenticity reign supreme, personal brand attributes often reflect a commitment to sustainability, innovation, and community engagement.

What is Personal Branding?

Personal branding is the intentional process of shaping and managing the public perception of oneself or one's brand. It involves crafting a distinct identity that resonates with your target audience and communicates your values, expertise, and unique selling points. In a city like Portland, known for its eclectic mix of artists, entrepreneurs, and activists, personal branding is essential for standing out in a crowded marketplace.

Why Personal Branding is Important

In today's digital age, where first impressions are often made online, personal branding plays a crucial role in shaping how others perceive you or your brand. Whether you're a freelancer, a small business owner, or a creative professional, a strong personal brand can differentiate you from the competition, build trust with your audience, and open doors to new opportunities.

Why Personal Branding is Essential to Career Success

In a city as creatively diverse as Portland, establishing a strong personal brand is essential for career success. Whether you're an artist seeking gallery representation, a small business owner looking to attract new customers, or a freelancer vying for clients, a well-defined personal brand can set you apart from the competition and position you as a leader in your field.

What Personal Branding Can Do For You

Personal branding can empower individuals and brands to connect with their target audience on a deeper level, fostering loyalty and brand advocacy. By sharing authentic stories and experiences through compelling imagery, personal branding photography has the power to evoke emotion, spark conversation, and inspire action.

Personal Branding as an Artist

As an artist myself, I understand the importance of personal branding in cultivating a loyal community and attracting opportunities for collaboration and exhibition. In Portland's vibrant arts community, personal branding photography can help artists showcase their unique style and vision, building a strong online presence and connecting with collectors, galleries, and fellow creatives.
