This product photoshoot for Gay Awakening Coffee was a three-part session including a documentary-style shoot at the coffee roastery, a shoot with local drag queen at Stem Wine Bar, and a product shoot at my home studio.

I love the clients who already feel like friends by the time we shoot together. That's how it was with Nicole from Gay Awakening Coffee. We'd been connected on Instagram and chatting about working together for months. The stars finally aligned in May when Nicole launched the new branding for their coffee bags.
The new branding, done by local branding studio Hensel Studio, is giving gay without being over-the-top rainbow. The branding is perfect for photos with the whimsical characters and bold colors. I leaned heavily into the color story for the product photos in the studio especially. I leveraged solid colored backgrounds and props in the same color palette as the main package color.
The first part of the product shoot was at the roastery where Nicole roasts all of the coffee batches that go out to the public. We incorporated a few creative portraits mixed in with the documentary-style branding session.
I used a mix of natural light and a flash to play with different looks while featuring the new packaging and the beans themselves. It was a fun challenge to make beans look sexy and I enjoyed playing with the bright action shots of beans falling and pouring.
The shoot at Stem Wine Bar went perfectly with the look and feel of the new Gay Awakening branding. The colorful flags outside the entrance and bright yellow espresso machine against the black tile backdrop made the rest of the colors of the packaging pop.
Queen Nicole was an incredible model working with the espresso pours between fit changes for multiple different looks in a single session. This whole shoot came together in such a beautiful, vibrant way that was perfect for Pride. I can't wait for more shoots with Gay Awakening - stay tuned, stay gay.
