Like any good dive bar shoot this one started with some beers at the outdoor tables. We'd booked this shoot a few weeks out and were definitely expecting full sunshine and heat at the end of August in Portland. But we got hit by the one super rainy summer day in the midst of weeks of 90 degree days. But thankfully the Sandy Hut has covered outdoor tables with perfect diffused light *sigh emoji.*
Jo and I chatted for the weeks leading up to the shoot about inspo and vision and were aligned on a kind of classic retro fit - basic tees, tanks, jeans, jacket in a red, yellow, blue color palette.
What are the steps of a 35mm film portrait photoshoot?
Step 1: We connect and chat about ideas and inspo. After an initial call or email to get on the same page about what you're hoping to get out of your film portrait shoot, I'll follow up with a mood board and a list of possible locations (if not already decided on). We'll nail down the dirty deets of date, time, and quote.
Step 2: We shoot! On the day of the shoot we'll ease into things and chat for a bit while I start taking details and location shots. I'll direct you through different movements and positions while focusing always on capturing candid shots between the individual poses. Shoots typically last a minimum of one hour but 30-minute mini sessions are also available for anyone looking for a smaller number of shots (10-20).
Step 3: You get the pics! You'll typically get to see a sneek peak (5-10 photos) the day after the shoot (excluding some major holidays when the lab is closed). Within two days of the shoot you'll receive a link to download all the photos. Within a week of the shoot you'll receive a link to an online gallery that you can share. You have full rights to all of the photos for the shoot - share away!
